On April 6th, the third Leap Into Books event kicked off in style at Laisterdyke with a huge variety of visitors, including Bali Rai, Kev Sutherland, Tony Lee, Bob Pegg, and many more, working with almost 100 children from Laisterdyke's Year 7 and 8, and a variety of local primary schools.  The event was a huge success (including being pointed up as an example of good practice by author Alan Gibbons on his website), and we hope to repeat it next year!

To find out a bit more, and see pictures from the event, please go to the official Leap Into Books website (there's also a  menu link on the left)!

Building Schools for the Future

BSF Update May 2009:

I trust that by now parents and students have seen the statements in the local press regarding this programme. After the Council's Scrutiny Committee meeting last week there was a decision to support the current proposals . There will be newly built schools at Ilkley, Bingley and Nab Wood.

Our development proposed is simple and quite small - removing some of the "older" middle school rooms and adding on a new Sports Hall with changing facilities.

However, as you know the College never stands still and work will begin during the week of our half term break in May - 25th to 31st - on our new 2 storey extension to the 3 storey block.

This is being done so that when the BSF programme does start eventually we should not need to have expensive temporary buildings for the duration of the build but that we should have enough space for all of us in the main building.

On March 26th, schoolchildren from all over the country will be taking over BBC News, and presenting a huge variety of news reports - both on TV, and online. We are proud to have a group of students involved in the project. They've already been to Leeds to see the BBC TV Centre, and meet the presenters of Look North, as well as subjecting staff to probing interviews! - For more information, video (you'll need Silverlight installed) and photos, follow the 'BBC Schools Report 2009' link on the left.
